Rhode Island High School Hockey Game Leaves Two Dead

(MENAFN) A violent incident at a high school hockey game in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, left two people dead and three others critically injured as police investigate a family-targeted attack, according to reports.

Authorities said that 56-year-old Robert Dorgan opened fire during the game at Dennis M. Lynch Arena on Monday afternoon, killing his ex-wife, Rhonda, at the scene, and his adult son, Aiden, who later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

Dorgan also shot Rhonda’s parents, Gerald and Linda, along with a family friend. All three remain hospitalized in critical condition.

"It appeared that the suspect was in female clothes yesterday," Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves said at a news conference.

"We've also learned that the suspect does use the names Roberta, Roberta Dorgan, and also Esposito," Goncalves added, noting that the suspect’s legal name is Robert.

According to investigators, three bystanders attempted to intervene before Dorgan retrieved a second firearm and then died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police confirmed that both weapons were legally owned by Dorgan.

"This was a targeted event. It looked like a family dispute, and there was one individual who was a family friend," Goncalves said, describing the situation as a deliberate attack on family members.

The community and local authorities continue to respond to the aftermath of the tragedy, as the investigation into motives and circumstances remains ongoing.
