DMPED, WDCEP and WeWork Announce Collaboration to Attract International Companies to the District

WASHINGTON — Today, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED), the Washington DC Economic Partnership (WDCEP), and WeWork announced a collaboration to attract international businesses to the District.

The agreement between the parties provides flexible, turnkey workspace solutions and brings tailored support to international companies entering the U.S. market, and continues the District’s commitment to the Washington DC Global Soft Landing program.

“Washington, DC’s Global Soft Landing program makes it easier for international companies to successfully enter the U.S. market,” said Nina Albert, Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development. “By locating in the District of Columbia, international companies will receive the support they need to bring their businesses to a hot and growing market in the U.S., while also getting to call our beautiful city home.”

The program incentivizes international businesses to select WeWork locations within the District as their home base. The primary landing zone for participating companies is at WeWork 1701 Rhode Island Ave NW, located blocks away from the White House and Dupont Circle, with additional WeWork locations throughout the District serving as secondary landing zones. Through the program, participating companies can receive a 20% discount on WeWork Private Office workplace solutions for a 12-month term.*

“Washington, D.C. is an important gateway city for companies entering the United States, and through our partnership with DMPED and WDCEP, we’re enabling international organizations to easily establish a footprint and physical presence in the market,” shared Nick DeMarinis, VP, Head of Leasing – East, at WeWork. “WeWork serves as a key resource for growing companies, with flexibility, scalability, and adaptability at the core of what we do. Companies leveraging this partnership to secure workspace will be part of an ecosystem designed to support their expansion, development, and long-term success.”

The Washington DC Global Soft Landing program creates a pathway for international start-ups and companies to enter and grow in the DC market by providing tailored support, including real estate solutions, business services, and networking opportunities offered through a consortium of economic development partners. DMPED and WDCEP have engaged several organizations to promote Global Soft Landing to their networks and build a pipeline of companies for the program.

“Real estate is one of the many hurdles for an international company entering the U.S. market,” said Derek Ford, President and CEO of WDCEP. “This collaboration clears that hurdle. Companies in the Global Soft Landing program get flexible, discounted space in the center of Golden Triangle.”

As part of the District’s strategy to diversify its economy, the Global Soft Landing program targets high-growth industries, including technology, particularly AI, cybersecurity, and fintech subsectors; life sciences and healthtech; consulting services, communications and design, and education and research.

Washington DC Global Soft Landing is a collaborative effort between DMPED, WDCEP, and the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District. Supporting partners include the Federal City Council, the DC Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the Greater Washington Black Chamber of Commerce.

The program began in 2024. Its suite of services includes specially priced real estate in prime locations, tailored immigration solutions, business development assistance, custom research and market intelligence, customized community tours, access to networking opportunities, assistance navigating regulations, and connections to local service providers.

“Come here. Grow here. Stay here,” said Ford. “That’s why we built this program.”
